What is the Employee’s Responsibility if Patient Abuse is Suspected?

“Abuse or Neglect” is defined as the infliction of physical pain, injury, or mental  anguish, or the deprivation of services by the caregiver, which are necessary .To maintain the welfare and health of an adult or child. Signs of abuse and neglect may include:

Bruises, fractures, burns;

Failure to give adequate meals, medications, glasses or false teeth;

Poor hygiene;

Verbal berating;

Treating the older person like an infant;

Isolating the older person from friends or activity; or giving the older person the “silent treatment”.
